A CRESPOGRAM RANT

RAQUEL REGALADO GOES AFTER CARLOS GIMENEZ, OVER THE LACK OF FEDERAL FUNDS TO DEAL WITH THE LATEST INFLUX OF CUBANS, WHILE IGNORING THE FACT THAT HER FATHER, THE MAYOR OF MIAMI, IS PANDERING TO HIS OLD CUBAN BASE ABOUT PISSING AWAY PUBLIC MONEY TO CHALLENGE A CONSULATE IN MIAMI, INSTEAD OF DEVOTING HIS EFFORTS TO GET MORE FEDERAL MONEY TO DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM

JANUARY 22, 2016

Last week Raquel Regalado was on This Week With Michael Putney, and was talking about the pending flood of Cubans who are currently in Central America trying to get to Miami.

Given that she’s currently running for Miami-Dade County Mayor against Carlos Gimenez, she couldn’t resist making a dig about Gimenez’s supposed failure in trying to get additional federal funds to cover the costs of these Cubans arriving in our community.

Now, I’m not a fan of either Gimenez or Regalado, but there is no small irony that Regalado would attack Gimenez for his supposed failure to go to Washington in an effort to get more federal money when her father, who is the Mayor of Miami, hasn’t gone to Washington either.

While Regalado sponsored a resolution before the City Commission at the last meeting to ask Washington for more money, press reports indicate that he’s a lot more upset about the possible placement of a Cuban Consulate in the city limits of Miami - upset enough to threaten to piss away local tax dollars to file a nonsense lawsuit that would eventually get thrown out of court - than he is about going to Washington himself to lobby for more federal money.

This is a serious problem that does require additional federal money, and instead of all the bullshit between Regalado and Gimenez, they and their respective City and County Commissioners need to get off their asses and ALL go to Washington to see what they can do, because there is already grumbling in some parts of this community that once again Cubans getting off the boat are being treated better than poor folks who have been here for generations, and the possibility that allocations of existing local tax dollars to projects that might be scuttled or postponed to use that money to deal with this new Cuban problem are not going to sit well with a lot of people.

Instead of this continuing political pandering to Cuban voters, Regalado, (Daddy and Daughter),Gimenez and all the rest of these Cuban and non-Cuban politicians need to start caring about what happens to this whole community for a change!
