This is the 21st century, and for better or worse, Miami is considered a major American city, or at least it’s a city situated inside the borders of America.

Like all American cities, the City of Miami generates an amazing amount of paperwork - real paper and electronic records - related to it’s daily operation. On any given day tens of thousands of pages of documents, emails, reports, memorandums, bills, invoices, receipts and all other kinds of documents are generated by the 4000 plus folks who work for the city and the electronic versions end up being stored in the city’s mainframe computers.

BUT, make a request for documents that might shine light on the

inner-workings of what really goes on inside of Regaladoland, and you’ll soon discover that you’ve entered a land operating like before the invention of movable type.

Just days ago, I sent Miami City Manager Danny Alfonso the following letter, which I’m sure all you regular readers will remember.

After what was obviously a through search of his office, his computer and the garbage can in his office he sent me the following reply.

Imagine! Almost two weeks after the Mayor of Miami met with David Beckham and his posse, and after stating on a Sunday TV show that he had instructed the Manager to hire a consultant(s) to sort out the value of the FEC Slip, the Manager claims that he doesn’t even have a Post-It Note containing any information related to the above Public Records request that I made to him.

Of course his response is absolute bullshit!  There are emails, just as there has been internal communication about all of this, because even though there are folks - like Assistant City Manager Alice Bravo who operates like Mafia Don who thinks that the FBI has bugged her computer - no responsible City Manager could begin to tackle an issue of this magnitude or importance without documents being generated.

But, this is Regaladoand, and when the Mayor talks about transparency, he’s actually talking about the single ply toilet paper he wants the citizens to wipe their asses with.

You can take a politician like Regalado out of Cuba, but you cannot take Cuba out Regalado!

That’s why he’s the Mayor of the Banana Republic of Miami, and why you can expect that the scheming that is now only starting over the deal to allow Beckham and his posse to see this issue put on the ballot in November will stun some people, anger others and hopefully will finally convince people that Regalado and the 5 Dwarfs on the Miami City Commission are indeed as sleazy and unprincipled as I keep claiming that they are, because at the end of the day how the City Commission votes on the Referendum issue will have very little to do with soccer, and a whole lot to do with self-interest and a big payday for the small handful of lobbyists who treat their chosen City Commissioners as hand puppets.

That’s the real Miami, Bitches!
