ANOTHER BAD DEAL FOR MIAMI
ELECTION DOESN’T CHANGE THE MATH. THIS WAS A BAD DEAL THE DAY BEFORE THE ELECTION, AND IT’S A BAD DEAL THE DAY AFTER
PART XIX

In typical Miami fashion, now that the election is over, a number of people who sat around with their thumbs stuck up their ass have all of a sudden started wondering whether Skyrise Miami is such a good deal for Miami.

After having written 16 stories that included detailed financial analysis of this deal as well as revealing as many of the back-room machinations as I could of how this deal was cobbled together, I remain as convinced today as I became after writing my first story about this project back on March 17th, that this is another bad deal for Miami.

The deal is bad because the math is bad.  It’s that simple.

Also, this beast is ugly, and for a lot of people its hard to conceptualize just how ugly this beast is going to be on Miami’s waterfront until it starts going up.

A dollar to a donut says that in about 2 1/2 years when the size of this tower starts making itself visible on the skyline, and when people begin to see how it towers over Bayside Marketplace you’re going to start hearing a lot of people questioning the wisdom of allowing this tower to be built.

But, short of it being toppled by a Class 5 hurricane, this beast will rise, and then when the financials don’t match the expectations, then there will be a usual bitching and moaning and whining, but it won’t matter because the corrupt members of the Miami City Commission who voted to allow this thing to be built on the waterfront will all be gone from office, and it will become just another bad deal for the City of Miami.

Only this deal will be a stupendously bad deal that over time will not become, as Jeffrey Berkowitz likes to claim will be Miami’s Eiffel Tower, but just a big, ugly amusement tower that will stand as a symbol for the level of public corruption and stupidity that makes Miami unique, even among all of the other corrupt cities of the world.

It’s Miami, Bitches!

ELECTION WRAP-UP
VERONICA DIAZ WANTS TO BE A JUDGE
LITTLE MISS ULTRA GETS ELECTED: NOW LETS
SEE HOW LONG SHE REMAINS ON THE BENCH

I was never against Veronica Diaz because I was for Reiner de la Portilla.  I thought they were both terrible candidates, and the only good thing about these two running against each other was that it guaranteed that only one of these morons would end up as a Circuit Court judge.

So Veronica won.  Now let’s see how long she stays on the bench.  The case against her and the other folks who took the free Ultra VIP tickets is still an open case, and I’ve been told that this deal stinks so bad that even the usual suspects are upset enough to not let this case disappear like so many other cases involving politically connected insiders have disappeared over the years.

Given that Diaz not only took the tickets, but was also responsible for writing and overseeing the contracts that allowed the Ultra promoters to get away without being audited, is just the kind of stuff that might convince folks that Little Miss Ultra might be better suited to go hang out in her boyfriend’s law firm with disgraced former judge Ana Maria Pando.

Ben Alvarez, Veronica Diaz and Ana Maria Pando:  Now there’s a trifecta that’s worthy of a law firm called, Dewy, Cheatem and Howe.
