IS ALL ABOARD FLORIDA DESTINED TO
BE ANOTHER BOONDOGGLE
BAD NEWS ABOUT THE ALL ABOARD PROJECT SOMEHOW NEVER SEEMS TO GET PAST THE PROPAGANDA BARRIER THAT STRETCHES ALONG THE NORTHERN BORDER OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, OR AS WE WHO LIVE HERE AND PAY ATTENTION CALL IT, THE BORDER THAT DIVIDES THE BANANA REPUBLIC OF MIAMI FROM AMERICA
ARCHIVES2014_ARCHIVES.html

if you depend on your “news” from what passes for the local news media in Miami, you’d probably never know that outside of Miami-Dade County there are a fair number of folks who are downright pissed about the All Aboard trains.

These folks have put up a website, Facebook page, staged protest rallies, gotten their Congressmen to write letters questioning this deal, and Martin and Indian River counties have even pledged $4.2 million to fight this high-speed rail service from Miami to Orlando.

Here inside the Banana Republic there’s been story after story about the wondrous opportunities that all these trains are going to bring for Miami, and all of the efforts that the All Aboard folks have made to insure that folks are not inconvenienced by 32 passenger trains, 24 freight trains and however many Tri-Rail trains eventually make the run from West Palm Beach to Miami.

But of course reality has a very bad habit in this community of sneaking up and biting everyone in the ass time after time when bullshit promises are made by the corrupt politicians and voraciously greedy developers and “business people” over how their latest scheme will spread wealth, happiness and the American Way of life to the gullible, who keep going for the Okey-Doke, time after time.

Just think of the 2 basketball arenas, Marlins Stadium, the Skyrise Tower that was never going to be built with public money, the Performing Arts Center that was a couple hundred million over budget and now gets $4.5 million from the OMNI CRA annually in operating funds, the Miami Marine Stadium where it turned out that the architects figured out that cashing in through a little self-dealing was the least that they were entitled to for being such public spirited individuals, or the Perez Art Museum who promised that if the public gave them the land, they’d never ask for any public money.

In Miami, it’s one boondoggle or hustle after another, and this All Aboard train to Orlando could very well be one of the bigger hustles perpetrated on the citizens of this community.

Below is an economic study that the Miami Herald, Miami Today, nor any of the other business publications in South Florida has considered worthy of being shared with the folks in Miami-Dade County.  It was published by the Palm Beach Post, which is becoming the closest newspaper that you have to read in order to find out news about Miami that the local news media won’t tell you about.

Among the study’s conclusion are that in order to meet it’s large debt payments, a one way ticket from Miami to Orlando would have to cost $273.00, more than half as much as a one way airplane ticket, and that All Aboard Florida would generate loses of “more than $100 million, and would not be able to meet its debt payments.”

Of course the All Aboard folks have claimed that this study is all bullshit, but then I’ve never believed from the beginning that this deal was a transportation deal, but rather that it was always a real estate development deal masquerading as a transportation deal.

In any event, here is the study, so you can read it for yourself, and make up your own mind.

It’s Miami, Bitches!
