I WANT TO BE MAYOR, LIKE MY DADDY
TOMAS REGALADO’S STUNT TO USE THE MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR RAQUELITA’S POLITICAL BENEFIT BLOWS UP

As a handy rule of thumb, you should always assume that anytime you see Tomas Regalado and Raquel Regalado’s name together in a City of Miami press release there is shit in the game.

On Monday, the following press release was posted on the City of Miami’s website announcing that Daddy and Daughter would be taking part in a press conference to announce a “brand new initiative designed to increase safety in schools and provide valuable life lessons in an effort to reduce incidents of bullying, violence and other destructive behavior in public schools.”

A little after 8 AM on Tuesday morning, the above press release was removed from the City’s website, and a notice was sent out to the news media that the press conference was cancelled until further notice.

NEVER MIND

The real reason - even though it will be denied - is that the press conference was cancelled because Alberto Carvalho, the Miami-Dade Superintendent of Schools found out that he’d been hoodwinked into believing that everyone, including the School Board’s Police Department was in support of this deal.

They weren’t!

Carvalho runs a very tight ship, and he doesn’t like to get sandbagged by an issue that could end up making him look complicit in scheme that not only was blatantly political, but worse could end up proving to be professionally embarrassing.

All of that and more was possible from this scheme because for the last several months, Javier Ortiz, the President of the Miami Police Department’s Fraternal Order of Police had been complaining that Police Chief Manny Orosa was trying to circumvent the union’s contract with the city by attempting to outsource the addition of School resources officers from the ranks of the department’s retirees, all to provide brownie points for Raquelita.

When news of the press conference was announced, Ortiz sent out a strongly worded press release detailing the FOP’s position, which was supported by the School Board’s FOP chapter.

That was enough for Carvalho.

This latest attempt to by Regalado to use the police department for political purposes is a pattern that has been part of his political career from the beginning.

In recent years I wrote a 2-Part series on how he had Chief Orosa provide free off-duty police for almost 5 months to protect the art gallery of Gary Nader in Wynwood (PART I, PART II),  and of course there are all the twists and turns that have taken place since Regalado forced former Chief Exposito to promote his “Godson” Luis Cabrera to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police, only to have Cabrera subsequently banished from the department for being emotionally unstable.

After almost 3 years Cabrera is now on track to return to the police department within a month or so, and the odds makers are already salivating on how long it will take him spin out of control and go bat shit crazy again.

But those are mere sideshows to what can be expected as Regalado really starts using and abusing the resources of the city to promote Raquelita’s expected campaign for Mayor.

It’s Miami, Bitches!
