THE THRILL IS STILL GONE

The only thing I can say with certainly about the about list that I received from Commissioner Russell’s office is that the value of the coffee cup that I gave him was significantly undervalued. My website lists the cup at $12.99, not $5.00.

Other than that, the list that his Chief of Staff sent me could just as well been a used shopping list that he picked up off the ground in the parking lot of a Publix.

Russell and his staff failed in their responsibilities to be the custodians of the public records in his office, and any list or other document recreated “from memory,” 6 months after the fact are at best worthless, and at worst self-serving creations meant to deceive.

This was never about the list as much as it was about character and transparency and how the Commissioner and his staff behaved under pressure, and in that regard, they get a big fat F!

The best example of just what a moron Russell has hired to be his Chief Of Staff, is the email that accompanied the list.

In the business world, a week starts at 8 or 9 AM on Monday morning, and ends at 5 or 6 PM on Friday afternoon.  For those of us who follow the Gregorian calendar, the week starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday.

In my previous story on Monday I had included an email that Melendez had sent me on Saturday, May 28th, where he had told me he would be sending me the list “this week.” It would seem that In the world of Eleazar Melendez, the days of the week seem to start and/or end whenever it’s convenient.

Four months have now passed since Ken Russell took office, and after firing his first Chief of Staff - who should have never been hired - he settled on Eleazar Melendez, who from the beginning posed real problems for Russell, not the least if which was his lack of professionalism  and his complete lack of managerial experience, along with an almost uncontrollable need for self-aggrandizement that colored his actions and statements to the point that he wrote an embarrassing first person account of his actions during Russell’s first Commission meeting.

The article was just the most public manifestation of Melendez’s need to feed his ego at the expense of Russell, but unfortunately given that Russell’s own experience when it came to hiring and managing people was pretty much limited to hiring teenagers who knew how to do tricks with Yo-Yo’s, his decision to hire Melendez as his Chief of Staff has caused real consternation and concern among a far larger number of people than Russell has been willing to admit or accept.

Consequently, while I might be the only one willing to come out and say this publicly, there is a real concern that between Russell’s lack of managerial experience, and even worse, the growing realization that he might in fact just be another drugstore cowboy “who’s all hat and no cattle,” these problems could very well result in his being run over by his fellow commissioners much like his fellow Commissioners have rolled over Frank Carollo whenever they feel like it.

That in turn means that the District 2 Commissioner, instead of being the most powerful Commissioner, might soon become the most ineffectual Commissioner, and then it will be fun to watch who decides to step up and fill the vacuum.

It’s Miami, Bitches!

ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON, SEVERAL HOURS AFTER MY LAST STORY, I RECEIVED A LIST FROM COMMISSIONER RUSSELL’S CHIEF OF STAFF
