THE MEDIA TOWER: DEVIOUSNESS PASSING AS CONFUSION IN REGALADOLAND
ONCE AGAIN TOMAS REGALADO REVEALS THAT HE’S BOTH CLUELESS AND A PUPPET, AND I HAVE PROOF THAT MY STORY LAST WEEK ABOUT THE DO-GOODERS TRYING TO GIVE REGALADO A FREE
PASS WAS IN FACT SPOT ON

The stories about the efforts to approve or kill the Innovation Tower keep getting more interesting as revelations keep surfacing.

I hope to be able to do at least one, if not several more stories on this project in the days to come, but for now let me focus on these stories as a sampling of just what’s been going on behind the scenes.

Understand that the various moving parts of this story shifting behind the opaque curtain of Regaladoland are pointing not only to deviousness passing itself off as confusion, but that the Mayor has once again been caught lying, and the possibility that at least one City Commissioner is tap dancing as fast as he can to try to get away from a possible criminal investigation involving his past behavior in engaging in Pay For Play activities, but alas, that’s a specific story for another day.

That doesn’t mean however, that today’s stories aren’t chock full of the ingredients that make the City of Miami such a fun place.

I CATCH PETER EHRLICH WITH HIS DICK IN HIS ZIPPER

Last week I wrote a story in which I alleged that a small handful of do-gooders led by Peter Ehrlich, all of who were opposed to Michael Simpkin’s Innovation Tower, were even more upset over one of the proposed ordinance’s drafted to deal with with this Media Tower, that in Peter’s words would have resulted in allowing more Media Towers to be built in the City.

I argued in my story that the decision to create these ordinances was done with the direct involvement of the Mayor, and that what Ehrlich and others were essentially trying to do was to support and encourage the Mayor’s efforts to slow down the process to stop the Simpkin Media Tower by introducing one Ordinance requesting a “Temporary Moratorium” from this proposal going forward

At the same time they wanted to ignore the fact that while the Mayor was doing this, he was also responsible for the other two proposed ordinances that would have removed the language allowing a Media Tower in the SEOPW CRA District from Miami 21, the City’s Master Zoning Code and transfer that language to Chapter 62 of the City Code, which would result in removing the process of reviewing any future Media Towers from significant public scrutiny which, to their reasoning, would result in the possibility of even more media towers.

This possibility was very upsetting to Erhlich and his followers, but because the Mayor is a big supporter of Grace Solares, who he’s supporting to replace Commissioner Sarnoff in the District 2 election, they didn’t want to embarrass him by blaming him for this devious and duplicitous effort to shift the language around, so instead they sent out an email flyer putting the blame on the “City Staff,” instead of the Mayor.

Ehrlich vehemently denied this and claimed that I was wrong and that the Mayor was absolutely not involved in this piece of skull-duggery.

Yesterday, 2 days after the City Commission meeting where the Mayor withdrew his Ordinance requesting a “Temporary Moratorium,” and where the City Commission by a 4-1 vote voted to remove the language allowing a Media Tower in the SEOPW CRA District from Miami 21, the City’s master Zoning Code, while at the same time voting down the transfer of that language to Section 62 of the City Code by a 5-0 vote, Peter Ehrlich, on behalf of Scenic Miami and the Urban Environment League sent the following email to the Mayor.

So much for Peter Ehrlich trying to rally folks by claiming that it was the “City Staff,” and not the Mayor who was responsible for the attempt to pull a fast one on everyone with the Ordinance to transfer the Media Tower language to the City Code.

IS THE MAYOR JUST STUPID, A DEVIOUS LIAR, OR IS HE ON DRUGS

Ehrlich’s efforts are just part and parcel of the usual bullshit that more often then not goes on behind the scenes when lies and liars are jousting for position and leverage to get what they want from the 5 Dopes-On-A-Rope at the Miami City Commission.

Far more interesting and revealing is the Mayor’s position on this particular project, and the question of just what might be the real reason he chose to oppose this particular project.

In an April 29th story in the Miami Herald by David Smiley, Regalado conceded that he was “blindsided” when he learned from the Miami Herald the plans for this Media Tower.

Being “blindsided” or otherwise admitting to being clueless about a lot of things that go on in his city has been one of the defining hallmarks of Tomas Regalado’s reign as Mayor.

In the Herald story the Mayor went on to defend his position of being opposed to this particular Media Tower by admitting that it was essentially all about money, and the fact that in 2010 when he was a big supporter of the Mark Siflin Media Tower that would have been constructed inside the OMNI CRA District the City would have received money from Siflin, while this time out with the Simpkin’s Media Tower, the money would be going to the SEOPW CRA and the people of Overtown.

Given that the SEOPW CRA District is currently populated mostly by poor Black people - although that will change dramatically within the next few years as the economic conditions created by the Worldcenter, All Aboard Florida and other projects force the remaining majority of those poor Black folks completely out of Overtown - one cannot ignore the possibility that the Mayor’s position is tinged not only by racism but by the long standing opinion of many, including some of the members of the Miami City Commission, that you cannot trust the District 5 Commissioner with money.

It was Commissioner Sarnoff after all, who in January of 2010, when he wrestled away the control of the OMNI CRA from then Commissioner Dunn after he replaced Michelle Spence-Jones, who had been charged with fraud and removed from office, stated at that City Commission meeting that,

“The history of how these CRA’s have been governed

is that everyone who’s ever chaired them has been

arrested, has been indicted, and has been found guilty

   of something.”

Of course, while that sentiment still has standing in the shadows where people only whisper what they really think, it would take a raid on City Hall by the FBI before anyone one at City Hall would be comfortable in making that kind of claim openly today, so while ducking the fact that he was a City Commissioner in 2001 - along with current Commission Chairman Willie Gort - when the original language for the creation of a Media Tower inside the SEOPW CRA District was introduced and passed, and ignoring his involvement, including support and signing the Ordinance that allowed a Media Tower to go up inside the OMNI CRA District, the Mayor seems to have decided that instead of following up on his comments of April 29th, the best excuse for opposing this Media Tower proposed by Michael Simpkin and his partners was to play dumb and claim that he was confused over just what a Media Tower was, even though if he were really curious, that was a question that he should have been asking in 2001 or 2010.

Here a a short video clip that reveals Regalado playing dumb.

Now, if you watched the video, you heard Regalado clearly say that, “I have been trying to find a definition” [of a Media Tower] “and it does not exist.”

Obviously, neither the Mayor nor his staff seem to be acquainted or familiar  with what is inside the Miami City Code, because if they were, and especially since this Section of the Code was created by the Ordinance that the Mayor signed into law on August 9, 2010,someone  would have found this:

First off, you will see that this definition applies to Media Towers in both the SEOPW CRA and OMNI CRA Districts, so a part of the proposed ordinance that would have transferred the language from Miami 21 to the City Code was already included in the City Code sometime between August 9, 2010, and today.

So much for the rocket scientists entrusted with paying attention to what ends up in the City Code, because now if the Commission wants to remove the language from Miami 21 on 2nd Reading, they’re also going to need to remove the reference in the above definition section of the City Code.

Secondly, it’s hard to feel sympathetic for a guy like Michael Simpkin because this Media Tower is probably going to be an eyesore that generates millions and millions of dollars, of which who knows how much has been committed to line the pockets of who knows who,  but truly, when you got a fucking moron for Mayor that is as clueless about the City he’s responsible for running as this guy has been from the beginning, and couple that with a gang of devious City Commissioners, starting with Commissioner Marc “Punky” Sarnoff who has taken at least $38,000 from Simpkin and his partners, and who at Thursday’s Commission meeting essentially threw him under the bus - that’s a piece of Must See TV all of it’s own - and then throw in a handful of do-gooders who have their own agendas, led by Peter Ehrlich, then maybe, just maybe, you’ll understand why I keep saying,

It’s Miami, Bitches!

PS: AS FOR THE REFERENCE BY EHRLICH IN HIS EMAIL - HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW - THAT AT TONIGHT’S SEOPW CRA MORE SKULL DUGGERY WILL OCCUR, HERE IS A COPY OF THE LEGAL OPINION ISSUED BY THE MIAMI CITY ATTORNEY THAT WILL BE DISCUSSED.  YOU WILL SEE THAT IT OPINES TO THE MEMBERS OF THE SEOPW CRA BOARD THAT IT IS THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, AND NOT THEM WHO DECIDES THIS FUTURE OF THIS TOWER.
