HOW SCHWARTZ MEDIA, THE DDA’S PR FIRM, PIMPED TERESA SARNOFF AS A COMMUNITY ACTIVIST TO MIAMI TODAY, AND DID SO ON THE TAXPAYER DIME
PART IV
THE CANDIDACY OF TERESA “THE
BEARD” SARNOFF (*) THE_BEARD.htmlshapeimage_10_link_0

Here is the story in Miami Today that she references.

Even though a very small amount of the money - $10,000 of the total $700,000 - for the MAT program was donated by the DDA, the story isn’t really about the DDA participation in this hustle, nor does it include a single quote or mention of anyone who is actually associated with the DDA.

As you can see, the entire story was about Teresa Sarnoff. Her name is cited 5 times directly, and she’s the only one quoted, which means that Samantha Ryan had Teresa Sarnoff in tow when she met with Catherine Lackner, the stenographer for Miami Today.

That’s how this game is played by these PR flacks and the pliant stenographers who call themselves “reporters” for some of these business publications. You arrange for your client and one of these phony “reporters,” to meet for coffee or lunch and by the end of the meeting all the quotes needed to make the client look good will be carefully written down to be sprinkled like pixie dust throughout the “story.”

If the story is about someone who’ll potentially be running for public office, you’ll more than likely want to make sure that a properly uplifting quote is provided to cap the story off. It never hurts if you lift the quote from someone famous.

“You want to leave the world a better place than you found it.”

                                                          - Teresa Sarnoff

“Leave this world a little better than you found it.”

                       - Robert Baden-Powell

                                                Founder of the Boy Scouts

Of course there’s a problem when you’re married to an ego maniac like Marc Sarnoff, because sooner or later he’s going to want to hog the credit.

In July, it was Teresa Sarnoff who got all the credit for stepping up to take charge when an illusionary fund raising target failed to be met:

“The MAT program was short of funding, so we raised the difference.”

By the middle of December, the Commissioner decided to cut himself in for the lion’s share of the credit for raising the entire $700,000, that included the $70,000 raised through his wife’s foundation.

The discovery that Schwartz Media was essentially pimping for Teresa Sarnoff on the DDA’s dime only confirms that whoever runs against her will not only have to deal with the enormous amounts of money that Sarnoff will raise from the developers and others who he’s helped make millions through his interventions on their behalf, but they will also have to contend with the DDA once again being used as a semi-stealth political tool to further the interests of Sarnoff, regardless of how questionable or illegal those activities are.

It’s Miami, Bitches!

One of the not so secret weapons that Marc Sarnoff has at his disposal to help his wife get elected is the Downtown Development Authority (DDA).

I did a whole series of stories about how that agency - of which he is the Chairman - conducted their own Absentee Ballot program in 2011 when he was running for reelection, and how one of his staff was involved in all of the behind-the-scenes activities that included mining the data that the DDA collected from the Absentee Ballot requests for Sarnoff’s benefit. Instead of the applications being sent directly to the Election Commission they had been sent the DDA office, because the\ DDA slapped their address on the postcards instead of the Election Commission’s.

Last year I wrote about how Sarnoff had used the DDA put together a promotional book about his accomplishments as the City Commissioner for District 2.

He treats the DDA staff and vendors as an extension of his Commission staff, and when necessary, they go well beyond accepted boundaries to do the Commissioner favors.

Here is just one example of how a DDA service provider - in this case Schwartz Media, the DDA’s PR firm - went out of their way to burnish  Teresa Sarnoff public image  last July in anticipation of her becoming a candidate for her husband’s seat.

It started with an email that I obtained that revealed that Swartz Media had been the driving force behind a very favorable article in Miami Today about Teresa Sarnoff’s’s activities with her End Homelessness Now foundation.
