INTERIM CHIEF “PUMPKINHEAD” AND THE PUMPKIN PATCH GANG
THE SWEETWATER CITY COMMISSION IS SCHEDULED MONDAY NIGHT TO REVIEW AND VOTE ON WHETHER THE NEW MAYOR’S DECISION TO HIRE PLACIDO “PUMPKINHEAD” DIAZ AND HIS CRONIES FROM THE MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT TO RUN THEIR POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS A SMART OR DUMB IDEA
PART II

There has been a fair amount of consternation and confusion over in Sweetwater the last few weeks after folks read my first story about the possibility that Placido “Pumpkinhead” Diaz and a handful of his pals from the Miami’s Police Department were coming to take over the management of their police force.

The news affected some people like an announcement that an Outlaw Biker Gang was coming to town to take control of their Girl Scout Troop, although, you could expect within a Biker Gang that there might be a few guys, who as fathers of daughters, might try to look out for the girls, where as, Pumpkinhead and his Pumpkin Patch gang have a long and well documented history of screwing the pooch, disobeying orders and abusing their positions for personal gain that all but insure that the good folks in Sweetwater would do well to make sure that everyone in town goes out and purchases a personal body cam to videotape every encounter they have with a police force if these guys get permanent appointments.

It is expected that Monday night promises to be a 4 Popcorn City Commission meeting.  Adding to the drama is the fact that even before Diaz and his gang rolled into town someone from the old regime fired 15 members of the force which set off it’s own firestorm that no doubt will spark its own discussion during the meeting.

In advance of that meeting here are several items of interest that might merit contemplation by the members of the City Commission and the citizens of Sweetwater.

THE PUMPKIN PATCH GANG’S ROSTER

In response to a public records request by the Sweetwater City Clerk’s office on Friday, this is the current roster of the Command Staff that came from the City of Miami.

It’s always indicative of the willingness of folks with power to bend the rules by the way they handle the little things.  A failure to sweat the small stuff will often be the signal that tells you that someone will play fast and loose with the big stuff as well.

Far more interesting that the fudging of his title, was the attempt by Diaz to reach out to the members of the Commission a few days ahead of the meeting where the Commission will vote on whether he becomes the permanent Chief with a request to discuss “sensitive items regarding the Sweetwater Police Department.”

Given Diaz’s past history of devious behavior over the years he worked for Commissioner Willie Gort, including his time when he conspired with other Regalado cronies to do everything he could to get former Police Chief Expositio fired, this effort to hold one-on-one meetings could easily be viewed as little more than his seeking an opportunity to whisper in the Commissioners ears in an attempt to influence their vote on Monday night.

The big question is whether the supposed “sensitive items” have a direct relationship to the discussion and vote as to whether Diaz and the rest of his Pumpkin Patch Gang officially end up being hired on Monday night.

If Diaz’s efforts to reach out to “meet with each member of the City Commission individually” represents an effort to circumvent Florida’s Sunshine Law by conducting meetings with the Commissioners as a way to avoid discussing these so-called “sensitive items” in a public forum, or worse, to use these conversations as a de-facto meeting of the City Commission out of the Sunshine by conveying his conversations amongst the Commission members with each one, then that’s a big problem.

Here is a relevant portion of Florida’s Sunshine Manual that deals with these kinds of efforts by folks trying to evade the law.

A denial by Diaz, as you can read above would not necessarily absolve him of using these meetings as an attempt to sway any of the Commissioner’s votes on his behalf.

Therefore, it might behoove some disclosure from any Commissioners who met with Diaz before Monday night’s meeting as to just what Interim Chief “Pumpkinhead” thought was so important that he made the effort to set up these one-on-one meetings before Monday night’s Commission meeting?

THE PERSON TO HOLD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE PUMPKIN PATCH GANG IS THE NEW MAYOR OF SWEETWATER, ORLANDO LOPEZ

You sometimes have to wonder just how the thinking process of a guy like Orlando Lopez operates.

After successfully knocking his major opponent for Mayor out of contention through a lawsuit, he succeeds in getting elected and in his first act as Mayor he hires a collection of slugs and thugs led by a conniving nutcase like Placido Diaz to take over his police department, while claiming that his goal is to clean up the city and turn over a new leaf.

Did he really think that the foul odor that trails Diaz and his pals would not follow them to Sweetwater?

All of these guys, starting with Diaz, have either been the target of serious IA investigations, or have been followed by a trail of allegations of wrong doing that prompted exclamations of joy from several high-level police and civilian City of Miami officials who were giddy when they learned that Diaz, Herbello and Carmona were all leaving the ranks of the Miami Police Department at the same time because that news held a promise that the department would be better off with their departure.

With several thousand active duty and retired command rank police officers in Miami-Dade County who have the qualifications, training and capability to clean up a problem police department, Orlando Lopez’s decision to do a dumpster dive to dredge up this Pumpkin Patch Gang will no doubt send a very clear and compelling message to the FBI and the FDLE that this new Mayor, contrary to his claims of cleaning Sweetwater up, has every intention of continuing the tradition that has convinced so many people throughout South Florida that the City of Sweetwater operates as little more than an organized criminal conspiracy.

While the citizens of Sweetwater might have spoken as to their choice of Mayor, it’s going to be up to the City Commission on Monday night to point out to Orlando Lopez, that being Mayor of Sweetwater doesn’t give him card blanche to piss on everyone’s shoes in the city by going out and hiring The Pumpkin Patch Gang to run the city’s police department.

It will be really interesting to see just how the Sweetwater City Commission handles this embarrassing situation, and whether they demand that their police department quit being considered a hangout for thugs and slugs.

It’s Sweetwater, Bitches!

The most interesting tidbit in the information above is that the City of Sweetwater officially lists Placido Diaz as the “Interim Chief of Police.”

THIS COULD BE A VIOLATION OF THE SUNSHINE LAW

Here is a copy of a memorandum that Diaz sent last Thursday to the Chairman and members of the Sweetwater City Commission that failed to identify him as the “Interim Chief.”

UPDATE

At Monday night’s Sweetwater City Commission meeting the Commissioners voted to return the 15 police officers who were summarily fired to the force, and to hold a Special Meeting on June 15th to deal with Chief “Pumpkinhead” Diaz and his Pumpkin Patch gang.

At least one Commissioner voiced his displeasure over the fact that Chief “Pumpkinhead” had not bothered to attend last night’s meeting so he could have been questioned over the actions that led to the 15 officers being fired.

The drama continues.
